A New Government White Paper

Communities in Control

Real people - real power

This White Paper announces the Government’s proposals to introduce a whole range of measures to extend the say individuals have over what happens in their local Community.

Well, they would want us to believe that wouldn’t they?

It’s easy to be cynical, but when you consider some of the proposals included, maybe we should give them the benefit of a second look

The proposals suggest, for example:

Inviting residents to get involved in setting local budgets

Providing young people with the opportunity to learn about and get involved in local government including the Parish Council

Tackling climate change at a community level

Developing local events to foster a sense of community

 Improving access to local information

Getting involved in the selection of who provides goods and services used locally for the benefit of citizens

Improving the accountability of local elected bodies including your Parish Council.

As a Parish Council we believe these ideas are worth serious consideration and we have set up a sub-group to look at them in detail and report back to the Parish Council on any local action we feel is appropriate.

In the spirit of the White Paper we extend an invitation to any resident of Ulnes Walton who would like to be involved, to volunteer to become a co-opted member of this sub-group
